Sewing Creations

Beginning a Plus Size all my life....(yes I was born plus sized 10 lbs 8oz) I have always had a struggle with clothing.  As a child my mother so kindly sewed for me, though I'm know I didn't always appreciate her style sense.  As an adult finding the fit in ready to wear has been a challenge, I also don't like most of the styles offered in the ready to wear  or the fit is all wrong.  Ah! Fit another one of my pet peeves.  How can they that a size 6 & make it into a 26, direct style and sizing up just doesn't work.  The good new, there are people designing  and manufacturing unique and sexy clothing for Plus Sized bodies, I will provide you links to those.

Finding your own style can be a fun and exciting journey.  When we find that vibrant unique person inside us, then dress her up and bring her out.....WOW!!!  So... let me inspire you with hints and tips on styles, patterns, fit and more.  Remember I want you to find your OWN style, this is just going to be here as a guide to help you on that journey. Also remember that you DESERVE to look your best, it will do wonders for your self esteem!!

 Taking your Measurements:

Remember measurements are only numbers.  I have taken my measurements in both inches & centimeters.  I keep a copy with me in my purse along with a tape measure for quick reference when buying pattern or clothing.  I keep a copy at my computer so when I'm shopping on line I have them handy & a copy with my sewing.  I have created a quick reference chart just follow the PDF  link  Measurement Chart  to print of a sample chart. Your can also email me from my contacts page & I can email you in a word file.  I will try to create a better chart soon hope this helps.

When you are selecting your pattern keep in mind that you will need ease in what what ever garment you are making.  I suggest 2-3inches round bust & 4-6 inches around hips.  I use this as a rule of thumb for garments that have little or no give, I might even add more in the hip area. For tops I also try to have them finger tip length rule, this takes them below the largest part of the hip.  Not all my tops have that but then I compensate in other areas.   e.g..  if I wear a shorter top I will not wear it with a pant or skirt that will out line my tummy, but a more full pant or skirt or biase cut skirt that hangs straight from my waist.  I have wrap pants that I love they look like a long skirt.

If unsure cut a bit bigger you can always adjust down, if smaller harder to go the other way.
